Exercise compliance among patients with multiple myeloma undergoing chemotherapy: a retrospective study

Shallwani S, Dalzell MA, Sateren W, O’Brien S.

This is a retrospective chart review study of 41 adult patients with multiple myeloma undergoing chemotherapy and rehabilitation. Exercise compliance at follow-up (at about 6 weeks after the initial assessment) was 71 %, with an increase in exercise levels (from a mean of 4 to over 10 metabolic equivalent-hours/week, at baseline and follow-up respectively) which was associated with a decrease in fatigue. Factors associated with non-compliance of exercise included previous pathological fracture, spinal cord compression, and radiotherapy suggesting these groups may require additional supervision to improve exercise compliance.
