Dear Colleagues,

As President of the South African Sports Medicine Association, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the Association’s 15th  Biennial Congress to be held at the Wild Coast Sun, South Africa on 24-27 October 2013. This prestigious international event is hosted every 2 years by South Africa’s national sports medicine body, SASMA. Our Association has a long and distinguished history of sports medicine and exercise science and enjoys strong relationships with a number of international bodies. This year we introduce Exercise is Medicine™ into the fold, and are using this platform to launch the global ACSM initiative in our country.

Following on the success of the 14th biennial conference in Sandton, we have in excess of 20 high calibre international speakers who have accepted invitations to present and share their expertise. For South Africa this provides an excellent opportunity to display our sports medicine experience on an international stage and to enhance the knowledge of everyone attending. The meeting will consist of an intensive series of plenary sessions, keynote addresses, panel discussions, practical workshops, presentations of original research, a trade exhibition and a social programme. We can look forward to sport specific yet multidisciplinary tracks hosted by some of our national sporting bodies, as well as new and innovative sessions in other tracks. Contributions from sports physicians, surgeons, radiologists, scientists, physiotherapists, biokineticists, dieticians and chiropractors, amongst others, will make it a truly multi-disciplinary interactive experience, balancing research, theory and practical application. The venue is superb and will facilitate a strong social programme, awesome entertainment and the opportunity to network extensively with your peers. This will be one of those conferences you won’t forget!

Kind regards

Dr Glen Hagemann
