Among us, there are

We watch them
\nas prey through a sight.<\/p>\n
Cheer them
\nas the mob below,
\nLooking up at
\nthe man on the ledge.<\/p>\n
We are unsure
\nwhat to hope for.<\/p>\n
We stand by
\nas they put
\nthe pain into
\ntheir limbs and lungs.<\/p>\n
We take what we desire.
\nThey understand how
\nwant has no confines.<\/p>\n
But too soon
\nthe bed is emptied of lovers.
\nAnd we are left
\nwith the despair that knows,
\nWhat we do to one another,
\nis still the lesser, than that
\nWhich we do to ourselves.<\/p>\n
