Clinical Ethics Conference: London 8-9th July 2010

On the 8th and 9th of July 2010 the Faculty of Health and Social Care at London South Bank University will be hosting a pioneering conference focusing on Best Practices in Clinical Ethics Consultation and Decision Making. For the first time in the UK, this conference will bring together an international and inter-professional dialogue between different stakeholders with the aim of fostering and developing best practice in clinical ethics consultation and decision-making across all sectors of healthcare.

Dr Doug Diekema, a leading paediatrician and ethicist from the Treuman Katz Center in Seattle, will be delivering the keynote speech reflecting on lessons learnt from his involvement with the controversial case of a girl with severe mental and physical disabilities which became known as the Ashley (Pillow Angel) case.

Other speakers in this highly interactive conference include the political activist Debbie Purdy (subject to health) and the team behind the BBC Radio 4 programme “Inside the Ethics Committee”.

This unique line-up of high profile and influential speakers includes nurses, doctors, lawyers, educationalists and service users. The highly topical nature of this conference has already attracted delegates from all over the world and promises to be a truly international forum for all interested in clinical ethics.
