{"id":1545,"date":"2012-02-28T17:11:38","date_gmt":"2012-02-28T16:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/medical-ethics\/?p=1545"},"modified":"2012-02-28T21:09:21","modified_gmt":"2012-02-28T20:09:21","slug":"conference-other-voices-other-rooms-bioethics-then-and-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/medical-ethics\/2012\/02\/28\/conference-other-voices-other-rooms-bioethics-then-and-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference: &#8220;Other Voices, Other Rooms: Bioethics, Then and Now&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Richard Huxtable has asked me to publicise this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The EACME (European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics) annual\u00a0conference will be hosted by the Centre for Ethics in Medicine at the\u00a0University of Bristol, between 20 and 22 September 2012:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eacme2012.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.eacme2012.org\/welcome\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This conference will mark the 25th anniversary of the Association, which\u00a0provides an ideal opportunity to reflect on the many contributions made in\u00a0and to European bioethics to date. \u00a0The conference theme, &#8220;Other voices,\u00a0other rooms: Bioethics, then and now&#8221; is borrowed from Truman Capote&#8217;s\u00a0novel, which deals with issues of coming of age, including embracing one&#8217;s\u00a0identity, understanding others, caring and being cared for, as well as\u00a0searching for oneself and for those to whom one is relationally bound.<\/p>\n<p>In keeping with these themes and the aims of the Association, we therefore\u00a0invite speakers to reflect on the identity of European medical ethics, and\u00a0the many places and people with whom it is intimately bound. \u00a0As such, we&#8217;re\u00a0keen to hear from across the different disciplines which encounter\u00a0bioethical issues, including (but not limited to) medical sciences,\u00a0nursing, allied health, law, social sciences, philosophy, classics and\u00a0drama.
