At number one this month is a qualitative study by Rich <em>et al,<\/em> which investigates the work-life balance of doctors undertaking\u00a0post graduate m<a href=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmjopen\/files\/2016\/08\/Tired-Doc.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1024 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmjopen\/files\/2016\/08\/Tired-Doc-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Tired Doc\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmjopen\/files\/2016\/08\/Tired-Doc-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmjopen\/files\/2016\/08\/Tired-Doc-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmjopen\/files\/2016\/08\/Tired-Doc-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>edical training in the UK. The authors conducted\u00a0semistructured focus groups and interviews with medical trainees and trainers and found\u00a0a\u00a0lack of work life balance that\u00a0negatively impacts on\u00a0learning and well-being. In particular, women with\u00a0children were the most affected.<\/p>\n<p>Other new entries include a cross sectional study by Steele <em>et al<\/em>, which found\u00a0that\u00a0ultra-processed foods make up over\u00a0half of all calories consumed in the US diet, and contribute to almost\u00a090% of all added\u00a0sugar intake. This study also received a <a href=\"http:\/\/bmjopen.bmj.com\/content\/suppl\/2016\/03\/07\/bmjopen-2015-009892.DC2\/bmjopen-2015-009892_Press_release.pdf\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fenton\u00a0<em>et al<\/em>\u2019s systematic review on the associations between dietary acid, alkaline water and cancer incidence and treatment outcomes has dropped to fifth place in this month&#8217;s list. Jonas\u00a0<em>et al<\/em> reached number six with a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the efficacy of surgery and invasive procedures for various conditions.
