Medical device recalls paper prompts concern in parliament and further coverage

The BMJ Open and BMJ articles (see previous post) and the Channel 4 Dispatches episode on the regulation and recall of medical devices has been covered in various newspapers and even prompted a question in Parliament.

MPs Paul Flynn and Peter Bottomley tabled Early Day Motion 1819 noting the findings of the research and calling for ‘a review that will ensure that UK patients have guarantees on the safety and efficacy of devices equivalent to that of patients in the US’.

The Financial Times brought together here the BMJ content with this paper in the European Heart Journal.

The Telegraph and The Express covered the story, as did The Daily Mail, which also included a slightly sinister-looking diagram; The Guardian published this blog from one of the authors, Dr Carl Heneghan.
