Cervical cancer is not just a young woman\u2019s disease, and women over the age of 65 should be screened, argued experts from the UK<\/a>. The Guardian<\/a><\/em>, ITV News<\/a>, the Daily Telegraph<\/a><\/em>, Huffington Post<\/a><\/em> and Sky News<\/a> reported on the story.<\/p>\n

Some SSRI antidepressants associated with birth defects<\/strong><\/p>\n

A study reported<\/a> that some SSRI antidepressants may be associated with increased birth defect risk and this received coverage from the Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/em>, the Guardian<\/a><\/em>, NPR<\/a> and Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Does the weekend effect lead to higher death rates?<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the biggest health stories of the year in the UK was the \u201cweekend effect\u201d on hospital death rates. In September, The BMJ<\/em> published research<\/a> that suggested that hospital admissions over the weekend are linked with increased mortality rates. BBC News<\/a>, The Telegraph<\/em><\/a> and The Observer<\/a><\/em> covered the story, among many other daily newspapers.<\/p>\n

The following month, editor in chief Fiona Godlee wrote to Jeremy Hunt<\/a> about his misuse of numbers on avoidable deaths that he claimed were published in The BMJ<\/em> article. BBC News<\/a>, the Independent<\/em><\/a> and the Daily Mail<\/a><\/em> covered this development.<\/p>\n

Another big hit worth a special mention is the reanalysis of Study 329<\/a> that found paroxetine to be unsafe in the treatment of depression for adolescents\u2014this story made headline news around the world.<\/p>\n
