They say that Europe\u2019s refugee crisis is the greatest test of humanity faced by the world\u2019s rich countries this century.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/351\/bmj.h4806\"><strong>\u2022\u00a0<\/strong>A news article by Anne Gulland reports<\/a> that a study has found that providing migrants with access to preventive treatment rather than waiting until they need emergency care would generate cost savings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/09\/migrants_greece1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-35192\" src=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/09\/migrants_greece1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"migrants_greece\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/351\/bmj.h4808\"><strong>\u2022\u00a0<\/strong>Another news article reports that Zsuzsanna Jakab<\/a>, WHO regional director for Europe, has issued a statement saying that no \u201csystematic association\u201d exists between migration and the importation of infectious diseases. She said that communicable diseases were primarily associated with poverty. \u201cThe risk that exotic infectious agents, such as Ebola virus or Middle East respiratory coronavirus (MERS-CoV), will be imported into Europe is extremely low, and experience has shown that, when it occurs, it affects regular travellers, tourists, or healthcare workers rather than refugees or migrants,\u201d said Jakab.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/09\/angela_merkel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-35194\" src=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/09\/angela_merkel.jpg\" alt=\"Germany Migrants\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/2015\/09\/09\/rubin-minhas-die-fluechtlinge-the-refugees\/\"><strong>\u2022\u00a0<\/strong>Rubin Minhas applauds the German Chancellor Angela Merkel<\/a> for her engagement in the refugee crisis in a blog.
