But hang on. Read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annals.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/145\/8\/626\">editorial <\/a>first. With meticulous politeness it points out all the defects of this drug-company sponsored trial, not least the fact that only one symptom\u2014bloating\u2014showed any significant improvement. <!--more-->Thus the drug\u2019s manufacturer gets the headline it wants from a reputable journal, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annals.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/145\/8\/557\">study <\/a>gets the panning it deserves in the same journal. I hope everybody is happy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annals.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/145\/8\/564\">follow-up study<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annals.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/145\/8\/564\">sexually-transmitted diseases<\/a> shows that in the year after diagnosis, 25% of women and 15% of men acquire a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annals.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/145\/8\/564\">new STD<\/a> infection. They need follow-up, at least at three months.
