The BMJ Group’s first dedicated supportive and palliative care journal has launched its new website this month to coincide with the journal’s official release at the COMPASS conference in Edinburgh.

BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care is an important resource for clinicians, researchers and other healthcare workers in all areas where supportive and palliative care is practiced. Published quarterly in print and continuously online, the journal aims to stimulate collaboration between healthcare professionals in different specialities by providing high quality, clinically relevant research, reviews, commentaries, information and news of international importance.

“We aim to reach out and tap the expertise of colleagues wherever new insights, therapies or organisations are studied. I hope BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care will stimulate collaboration between healthcare professionals in different specialties as well as researchers with different backgrounds. We intend to welcome contributions from many different academic and clinical disciplines while upholding the standards of good science and good writing,” remarks Editor in Chief, Dr Bill Noble, in his introductory editorial.

The new website will play an important role in the overall journal, featuring all content ahead of print as well as offering regular news updates, correspondence on topical issues, columns, podcasts, blogs, polls, and eventually, interactive educational features. Critiques of current practice and examination of new guidelines will also become a regular feature of the journal as well as ShortCuts to significant, relevant publications from other journals.

Fresh technology has been employed in the development of the site, including an RSS feed delivering news content from the blog site directly to the actual site (see screenshot below).

Additionally, the journal has a dedicated Twitter account and Facebook fan page, where users can keep up to date with the latest Editor’s choice and Unlocked articles, podcasts, blogs and mentions in the press. These accounts are now directly linked to from the right-hand column of each journal website.
