Or something)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prevalence<\/strong> &#8211; the number of people who <strong>have<\/strong> a condition <strong>at<\/strong> a specific period in time<\/p>\n<p>(This, like a prevailing wind, is the weight of a disease burden at one point in history.)<\/p>\n<p>But there is a touch more complexity &#8230;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>If you want to know\u00a0what proportion of children in special schools have visual difficulties at any one point in time, you&#8217;ll be asking for the <strong>prevalence<\/strong> of occular problems. \u00a0If you want to be planning\u00a0your print order for information packs from new diabetics, you&#8217;ll want the local\u00a0<strong>incidence<\/strong> of DM.<\/p>\n<p>Where conditions are not cured, and those affected are unlikely to die*, then the <strong>cumulative incidence<\/strong> is going to be, near as you like, the same as the prevalence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Archi<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* die within the time from developing the diagnosis and you wondering what proportion of folk have it.
