Some like listening &#8211; catch <a href=\"http:\/\/adc.bmj.com\/site\/podcasts\/\">our podcasts <\/a>for that &#8211; others doing &#8211; so we have <a href=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/adc\/twitterclub\/\">#ADC_JC <\/a>&#8211; and many readers of this blog will like, well, reading.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone particularly value pictures? **<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmhs.auckland.ac.nz\/en\/soph\/about\/our-departments\/epidemiology-and-biostatistics\/research\/epiq\/2015-evidence-based-practice-and-cats.html\">Especially Updated Pictures!! <\/a>**<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On the basis that lots of us do, <a href=\"http:\/\/ebm.bmj.com\/content\/11\/2\/35.extract\">Prof Rod Jackson (of Auckland) developed the GATE system, <\/a>looking at how different shapes can help folk understand the population of a study, the exposure to treatment (or something) and the outcomes in order to systematically critique any\u00a0study.\u00a0I think it helps folk understand where the patients come from and get to &#8211; in that way we can see where the data are missing, and where they are\/are not representative.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/images.slideplayer.com\/1\/232301\/slides\/slide_9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"797\" height=\"598\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The GATE frame can be used in conjunction with the other appraisal elements &#8211; like RAMBo and AVID &#8211; or with its own list of cue\u00a0questions.
