It doesn&#8217;t work (enough). This is a key decision to be made, and relies on a mixture of elements.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Take cognitive bias modification &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thementalelf.net\/mental-health-conditions\/anxiety-disorders\/limited-benefits-of-cognitive-bias-modification-for-adolescents-is-it-time-to-move-on\/\">as blogged about by the quite brilliant mental elf <\/a>&#8211; it&#8217;s an idea that if you encourage folk\u00a0to frame ambiguous situations in a positive way, they&#8217;ll be less depressed. You know .. that glass isn&#8217;t half empty &#8230; Anyway &#8211; yet another study shows there&#8217;s no real benefit in this. So\u00a0&#8211; when do you stop researching?<\/p>\n<p>We looked at an analogy here, in <a title=\"It\u2019s all the same\" href=\"https:\/\/stg-blogs.bmj.com\/adc\/2012\/01\/23\/its-all-the-same\/\">considering equivalence and non-inferiority<\/a>. Add to those ideas the cost of intervention, the cost of more research (both doing it, and the &#8216;cost&#8217; of not studying other stuff), then you can get to the answer.
